Nairobi, Kenya, September 12, 2013- Senegal Women's volleyball national team arrived to Nairobi, on Wednesday to participate at the 2013 Women's African Nations Championship due to start in Kenya on Friday with a new hope to finish at a podium place for the first time in their history.

Senegal didn't reach the podium in their 4 previous participations as they finished 8th in 2003, 5th in 2007, 4th in 2009 and 2011.

"We are coming here this time to compete for a medal," said Francois Latouffe, the team manger in the competition and the Secretary General of the Senegalese Volleyball Federation.

"We had a training camp in Mimes, France for a week early this month as we played some friendly matches which increased the team work between the local players and the foreign based stars in the French and Algerian leagues. We want also to use the momentum of our good results in the 2014 FIVB World Championship in Dakar where we won the gold medal of the 5 nation tournament ahead of Cape Verde, Guinea Conakry, Gambia and Sierra Leone." He added.

Senegal's squad in the 2013 African Nations championship includes the French based Marieme Diagne beside 7 players in the Algerian league in Chlef and Bejaia clubs with the rest 4 players coming from the Senegalese local league.

They started their preparations three months ago in local camps for the home club players before having a collective training together with the foreign based two weeks ago. They will also participate in the second round of the 2014 FIVB World Championship Qualification in Cape Verde next November.
