Prisons and GS Petroliers play for gold at Women's African Club Championship as ranking positions determined

11 April 2013

Antananarivo, Madagascar, April 11, 2013- Defending champions Kenya Prisons will play Algeria's GS Petroliers exciting young side in the second gold-medal match between these two sides in the Women's African Club Championship at Palais des Sport Hall in Antananarivo, Madagascar on Friday after both teams won their semifinals on Wednesday. GS Petroliers beat Ahly (EGY) 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-18), while Prisons flew past MB Bejaia (ALG) 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-22).

This will be the second final between Prisons and GSP after the first in 2008 in Egypt when the Kenyan side won in straight sets to clinch their first ever trophy.

Meanwhile five-time African champions Ahly (Egypt) face MB Bejaia (Algeria) for the bronze medal.

On the other hand all the other standings in the competition were determined following the ranking matches held on Thursday where seven-time champions Pipeline (Kenya) won the fifth position after beating APR (Rwanda) 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-15).

FAP (Cameroon) clinched the 7th position after hammering Ndejje University (Uganda) 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-23).

Host Stef Auto (Madagascar) already finished 9th early on Wednesday after defeating Water Sport (Ethiopia) 3-2 (25-20. 21-25, 22-25, 25-21, 16-14).

Kutlwano (Botswana) concluded at the 11th position as they took over AS Tanda (Cote d'Ivoire) after a Marathon 3-2 (24-26, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-13).

VBCD (Madagascar) overwhelmed Manga Sport (Gabon) 3-0 (25-7, 25-18, 25-14) to pick up the 13th position. Les AS (Burundi) was already ranked 15th.

The Ugandan team's performance was rising from one set to another till they were very near in the third set.  FAP finished in the seventh position, 4 positions late than their finish last year, while Ndejje University became the first Ugandan team to finish among the top eight.
