Madagascar gears up for the historic Women's African Club Championship

 Antananarivo, Madagascar, April 2, 2013- Everything becomes ready in Madagascar capital of Antananarivo to host the 3013 Women's African Club Championship due to start on Thursday April 4 till 12 at Palais de Sport Hall.

 

 It will be the first ever international volleyball competition to be hosted by the island located in the Indian Ocean in the eastern part of the African Continent.

 

 Sixteen teams will be participating in the prestigious event aiming at clinching the lone African ticket at the FIVB Club World Championship next October.

 

 "The hall with the capacitance of 6.000 spectators is ready for the opening ceremony of the competition," Said Madagascar Volleyball Federation President Clarisse Bakoly who was receiving the participating teams on Tuesday.

 

 "We hope to organise a successful competition in presence of the continental forces and we hope the teams show Africa a high level volleyball."

 

 The competition will feature the participation of the major African clubs led by the three successive time champions Prisons who represented Africa three times in the FIVB Club Championship and the last competition runner up Pipeline from Kenya also.

 

 Egypt champions Al Ahly who have 5 titles under their name will return back to the scene after being absent last, year aiming at regaining their dominance after their last cup won in 2009.

 

 Algeria will be represented by MB Bejaia as well as GSP Petroliers who won the local league and cup respectively last season.

 

 Among the strong contenders for the title FAP team from Cameroon who qualified to the semifinal of the last two editions and Kutlwano form Botswana.

 

 The host country will be represented by Stef Auto who previously participated in last edition and Damant.

 

 Other participating teams are AS Tanda from Cote d'Ivoire and Les As from Burundi.
