Lome, Togo, June 28, 2012- Host Togo were drawn along with Sierra Leone, Gabon and Cote d’Ivoire in Pool A of the Men’s Junior category of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Cup to start at Lome Beach in the capital of Togo on Friday.
Meanwhile South Africa face Guinea Conakry, Ghana and Burundi in the Men’s Pool B.
In the women’s draw Nigeria will line up alongside Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Conakry in Pool A, while Sierra Leone take on Gabon, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Rwanda in Pool B.
The drawing of lots was done on Thursday in the Togolese capital in presence of the CAVB supervisor David Kabre, event supervisor Ali Yaro, CAVB Beach Director Mrs May Alaa, Referee Delegate Hazem El Sherbini, Ass. Referee Delegate Hannington Nsubua, Togo Volleyball Federation President Ayaovi Babanawo.
The first ever African cup for junior category which acts as a qualifier for the FIVB World Championship of this age category features a participation of 11 counties coming out of the Continental zonal qualification.
In Men’s category 8 countries participate where they are divided into two preliminary pools playing in a single round robin format. The top two countries of each pool qualify to the semifinal to play for the top 4 positions, while the third and fourth ranked teams play for the 5 to 8 standings.
In the women’s gender 9 countries participate where they were divided into two pools with pool A comprising 4 teams while Pool B includes 5.
