Bursa, Turkey, June 28, 2014- Turkey electrified their hometown crowd with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 26-24) win against Slovakia in the second semifinal at Bursa Cengiz Gollu Volleyball Hall on Saturday. Now Turkey qualified to the final of the 4 nation tournament to play the final match on Sunday against Cuba, while Slovakia face China for the third position.
Turkey surprised their opponents from the start of the match with their skillful combinations beside the spike services and due to the great support from the home crowd they could come back twice when they were behind in the second and third sets.
Behind the victory was the domination of the hosts in areas of blocking and serving as Turkey was better in the first skill with 6-3 lead and the second with 8-3 ace advantage.
Metin Toy topped the scorers with 20 points for Turkey, while Lubos Kostolani was the best scorer for Slovakia with 17 points.
Turkey started the match highly motivated supported by the home crowd and succeeded to penetrate the Slovakian block frequently through the sharp spikes from the opposite Metin Toy who led his team to 8-6 lead at the first TTO. Turkey started to use the sharp spike service to disturb the Slovakian reception and build up the attacks through their setter Arslan Eksi and thus they maintained their lead 16-14 at the second TTO and continued their superiority by the net to win the set 25-22.
Slovakia's performance much improved at the beginning of the second set with their middle blocker Emanuel Kohut doing a great job in blocking and quick attacks. Slovakia led 8-5 at the first TTO and continued their way to lead 16-13 at the second TTO after successful spikes from Lubos Kostolani and Simon Krajcovic. The Turkish team made a great come back afterwards as they used the quick attacks through the outside hitter Tugay Dogan and the opposite Toy to draw 20-20. Turkey scored 4 consecutive points to lead 24-20 and win the set 25-21.
Again Slovakia tried to save the match in the third set and led 8-5 at the first TTO. With reception and digging errors, Slovakia lost a lot of points allowing Turkey to come back and their performance was disturbed however they succeeded to come back at the end of the set when they reached the set point 24-23, but their veteran star Kohut missed the service as Turkey scored 3 successive points o win the set 26-24 and the match in straight sets.
