KAMPALA, Uganda may 28, 2014- Kathberth Malinga and Erias Isiagi are the youngest beach volleyball pair on the CAVB U19 Beach Cup.
Their selection represented Uganda at the just concluded CAVB Cup in Kampala also earned them a ticket to play at this year’s U19 World Championship in Portugal.
The pair’s coach Sam Meya is optimistic the sky is the limit for the two teenagers.
“The time I have been with them you can say they are perfect for each other,” Meya said.
“We need to have strong minded and technically gifted players for the future, these two can be that as we also search for other players,” he added.
Malinga, boasts of height which gives him a better reach on the block, Isiagi, maybe slightly shorter, but he is not easy to beat on court cover.
The pair faces competition from Kenya, Rwanda, Egypt and Namibia, teams that are better exposed in terms of facilities and technical supports, especially Egypt.
“This tournament is good exposure for us moving forward,” said Malinga. “If we can secure qualification to the world championships then doors would have opened for us,” he added.
The pair qualified for the FIVB U19 World Championship ahead Kenya who topped the the four team, that also included Namibia and Egypt.
