KAMPALA Uganda May 26, 2014. Namibian beach volleyball coach James Verrinder confessed African teams will find it tough at the U19 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Portugal this July.

Uganda, Kenya and Egypt qualified in the boys’ category for the finals in Porto while Namibia and Uganda will represent in the girls category.

“As you can see our players are just beginners in this especially the girls,” said Verrinder.

“Our teams are good when it comes to mastering the basics of beach volleyball and covering the sand, but that’s against ourselves.”

“It won’t be the case in Portugal as those teams do it better than u,” he added.

Verrinder is scared that competitions won’t come from only Europe but the rest of the world where beach volleyball has produced some serious players in youth competitions.

“We are going to face some strong competition from very strong European nations, but the American and the southern Americans will be tougher opponents to play against.”

“It’s a big step, especially for the young boys and girls, but African volleyball needs to work hard to catch up with the rest of the world,” he added.

Uganda was represented at the two day qualifiers by Kathberth Malinga and Erias Isiagi in the boys and Faith Magole and Jackline Kwikiriza.

But the technical committee revealed that the quartet will join a host of other players in camp to choose the best candidate who will represent Uganda.

Boys’ final ranking

1.     Kenya

2.     Uganda

3.     Egypt

4.     Namibia
