Tunisia book World Championship ticket in style and peak records

2014 Men's World championship- Day 5 African qualifiers Pool V 

 Tunis, Tunisia, March 7, 2014- World No 13 Tunisia booked the third and last African ticket to the 2014 Men's World Championships after the won the African qualification tournament, Pool V held at Palais des Sports Hall in Tunis, Tunisia on Friday.

 

 Tunisia flew past struggling Congo team in the fifth and last day of the qualifier to raise their win- loss ratio to 4-0, while Congo dropped to 3-1 and finish the 5 national round robin tournament in the second position.

 

 Seychelles came from behind in each of the three sets to clinch a straight sets victory over Niger (28-26, 25-19, 26-24) to clinch the third position with 2-2 record while Niger finished in the fourth position with 1-3. Senegal who finished their matches in day 4 finished at the bottom of the table with 0-4.

 

 Now Tunisia completed the 3 African teams at 2014 Men's World Championship in Poland in August 30 to September 21 after Egypt clinched Pool U ticket in Nairobi, Kenya and Cameroon booked Pool T in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

 

 As the top African team in the FIVB ranking, Tunisia will be grouped along with defending champions Brazil, Germany, Korea, Finland and the second ranked team from NORCECA in the 2014 World Championship finals. 

 

Tunisia v Congo Brazzaville 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-17)

 

 Tunisia hammered Congo Brazzaville 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-17) in 62 minutes to clinch the World Championship ticket.

 

 With the victory Tunisia improved their win- loss ratio to 4-0 to with 12 points and without dropping a set, while Congo dropped to 3-1 to come second with 8 points.

 

 Opposite spiker Marouane Garci was the Tunisian and match scorer with 15 points followed by outside hitter Isamil Moalla 13 points. Louni Gampourou led Congo's scorers with 11 points.

 

Tunisia started the match with the main line up and they applied their attacking strategy to win the first set easily after a group of attacking combinations led by the setter Samir Sellami.

 

 Tunisian coach started to make some substitutions in the second set, where Congo entered the match through improving their defence and using the spike service of Nkouka Abrhys and the better blocking. Tunisia regained their dominance after the second TTO to win the set 25-17.

 

 Tunisian coach made other substitutions to use most of his substitutes in the field, but Tunisia kept their dominance and went easily to win the third set 25-17 and the match in straight sets.

 

Seychelles v Niger 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 26-24)

 

Seychelles won the crucial points of each set in their way to clinch a 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 26-24) victory over in Niger in 69 minutes.

 

 Seychelles improved their win- loss ratio to 2-2 with 6 points to finish at the third position, while Niger dropped to 1-3 with 4 points to end at the fourth position.

 

 Niger started as the better side after the attacks from position 3 through Djibril Adamou who conducted his team to lead 16-12. Seychelles fought aggressively to regain the lead through the tight block led by Rodney Ah-Kong till they won the set 28-26.

 

 In the second set Niger started aggressively to lead 12-10 before Seychelles worked well in blocking to win the set 25-19. The third set showed early activity for Niger as they fought to save the match and succeeded to lead 24-20 before Seychelles played their best to win the tough set 26-24 and the match 3-0.
