Congo record third win to face Tunisia for the World Championship ticket

2014 Men's World championship- Day 4 African qualifiers Pool V 

 Tunis, Tunisia, March 6, 2014- Congo Brazzaville continued their winning streak with third consecutive victory over Seychelles 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-16) in day 4 of the 2014 Men's World Championships qualification tournament, Pool V held at Palais des Sports Hall in Tunis, Tunisia on Thursday.

 

 Niger achieved their tournament's first win over Senegal 3-1 (25-19, 25-12, 21-25, 25-14) to advance to the third position.

 

 With the third win Congo became the direct competitors with hosts Tunisia who were in rest day as both teams has a win- loss ratio of 3-0, and their direct match on day 5 will be decisive to determine the last African ticket to the Men's World Championship in Poland in August 30 to September 21.

  

 Now Tunisia led the 5 nation round robin tournament with 9 points, followed by Congo Brazzaville 8 pts and the winner of their match on Friday will secure the World championship ticket. Niger came third with 1-2 record (4 pts) Seychelles came fourth with 1-2 (3 pts) and Senegal ended their matches with 0-4.

 

 The competition day 5 features two encounters as Tunisia face Congo Brazzaville for the title while Seychelles play Niger for the third position.

 

Congo Brazzaville v Seychelles 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-16)

 

 Congo Brazzaville maintained their record with a third straight victory over Seychelles 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-16) in 69 minutes. Congo improved their win- loss ratio to 3-0, while Seychelles dropped to 1-2.

 

 Congo's Nkouka Abrahys led his team and match scorers with 20 points followed by Davy Kouehouassazo 16 pts. Simon Kenneth led Seychelles' scorers with 11 points.  

 

 The first set was very competitive with both teams using all the power in attacks, but Congo was the better side in service and also in reception. After Congo led 8-5 at the first TTO, Seychelles came back with the quick attacks through the center Ah-Kong Rodney to stay near till Congo's opposite Nkouka Abrahys sent his sharp spikes to give his team the set 25-21.

 

 The second set showed early lead for Congo till 18-11 when Seychelles played their best as Daniel Lozanque spiked well and led his team to come back with the setter Paul Rose to reach 24-23 before they missed a service to lose the set 25-23 as Congo went to 2-0.

 

 It was easier for the motivated Congo team to continue the same rhythm till they won the third set 25-16.

 

Niger v Senegal 3-1 (25-19, 25-12, 21-25, 25-14)

 

 Niger pulled off a 3-1 (25-19, 25-12, 21-25, 25-14) victory over Senegal in 86 minutes. It was the first win for Niger to improve their win- loss ratio to 1-2, while Senegal finished their matches with 0-4.

 

Djibril Amadou led Niger and match scorers with 16 points, while Cheikh Fofona was the best in the Senegalese side with 11 points.

 

 Niger started the match using their blockers to stop the Senegalese attacks and succeeded to win the win the crucial points to win 25-19. Niger spirit became higher as they continued aggressive attacks to win the second set in a wider point deficit 25-12.

 

 Senegal played their best in the third set when they improved their combinations through the setter Soulemane Goudiaby as they could turn Niger leading 16-10 to set win 25-21.  

 

 Niger regained their power and motivations in the fourth set and played their best till the draw 8-8 when they overwhelmed the situation completely till they won the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.

 

 The winner of the round robin tournament will earn the third African ticket to the Men's World championship in Poland in August 30 to September 21.
