Congo record second win as Tunisia keep their victory rhythm

2014 Men's World championship- Day 3 African qualifiers Pool V 

 

 

 

 Tunis, Tunisia, March 5, 2014- Hosts Tunisia kept their winning rhythm after they cruised past Seychelles 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-16) in day 3 of the 2014 Men's World Championships qualification tournament, Pool V held at Palais des Sports Hall in Tunis, Tunisia on Wednesday.

 

 It was the third win a row for the hosts without dropping a set, while Congo Brazzaville record their second victory over Senegal 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) to keep chasing the Tunisian for the last African ticket at the 2014 World Championship.

 

 Tunisia led the 5 nation round robin tournament with a win- loss ratio of 3-0 (9 pts), followed by Congo Brazzaville 2-0 (5 pts). Seychelles came third with 1-1 (3 pts) and Niger fourth 0-2 (1 point). Senegal came last with 0-3.

 

 The competition day 4 features two encounters as Congo Brazzaville face Seychelles and Niger meet Senegal, while the leaders Tunisia will be in rest day.

 

Congo Brazzaville v Senegal 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16)

 

 Congo Brazzaville played their utmost to overcome the Senegal 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) in 67 minutes. Congo was the better team in blocking and defence and hence they could control the game throughout the three sets.

 

 Congo improved their win- loss ratio in 2 matches to 2-0 (5 points), while Senegal dropped to 0-3. Opposite attacker Nkouka Abrahys and outside hitter led the match scorers with 15 points each, while Momar Gueye led Senegal's scorers with 14 points.

 

 Congo started the match as the better side and succeeded to build up the attack through the setter Ndonga Nakavoua who arranged the attacking combinations. Nkouka played his best during the first set to allow his team to win 25-16.

 

 Senegal had early lead in the second set after they arranged their defence, but quickly Congo came back to win the set in the same score before they made it 3-0 in 67 minutes  

 

Tunisia v Seychelles 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-16)

 

 Tunisia claimed their tournament third victory over Seychelles 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-16) in 59 minutes. Tunisia improved their win- loss ratio to 3-0, while Senegal dropped to 0-3.

 

 Veteran Tunisian star Noureddine Hfaiedh and opposite Marouen Garci led the winner's scorers with 13 points, while Seychelles attacker Guy Valentin led his team scorers with 13 pts.

 

 The first set was the most competitive as Seychelles succeeded to work well in blocking beside the great role setter Jones Mangroo. Tunisia led hardly 16-14 at the second TTO before they improved the speed of the game to win the set 25-19.

 

 Seychelles team lost their concentration allowing Tunisia to have a wide jump and win the second set 25-10 and the third 25-16

 

 The winner of the round robin tournament will earn the third African ticket to the Men's World championship in Poland in August 30 to September 21.
