Lomé, Togo, October 14, 2011 – Pool 1 in round 2 of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup begins in Lomé on Friday as the second of the zonal phase tournaments gets underway in the Togolese capital.
Delegates and team managers from the host country as well as Congo RDC, Guinea Conakry, South Africa, Gabon, Egypt and Kenya attended the technical meeting on Thursday as the two-day tournament gets ready to kick off. The event was a landmark in African beach volleyball as it was the first time the African Country Ranking was used to seed each country.
In the men’s events, South Africa are seeded first with Egypt second, Togo third and Congo RDC fourth.
In the women’s event, Kenya are top of the seedings with South Africa second, Gabon third, Togo fourth and Guinea Conakry fifth.
The eventually winners and runners up will move on to the Continental Cup final with a place at the London 2012 Olympic Games on the line.
