Algeria coach selects squad for Men's World Championship qualifier

Setif, Algeria, January 12, 2014- Algeria's technical staff led by Mourad Sennoun and Mourad Hammouche selected the preliminary squad for the final phase of African qualification tournament (Pool U) for the 2014 Men's World Championship to be held Yaoundé, Cameroon February 14 to 19, 2014.


 The selection includes 16 players to be cut down to 12 ahead of departure to Cameroon ; El-Hachemi Mahdi, Hakmi Yacine  Oumessaâd, Mohamed Amine Soualem Bilel (NRBBA),  Khernache Djamel (Melia), Kerboua Amir (USMB), Dif Hacen,  Aridj Abdelkrim (POC), Benkahoul Abdelhafid, Zakaria Dekiche, Achouri Lyes , Fredj Miloud (ESS), Abiayad , Aïd Zakaria (Bethioua) Khessaï Kessai (MBB) and Ould Cherchali Islam (GSP).


 The team will train in the National Sports Center in Setif in preparation to the tough tournament which features hosts Cameroon, Algeria, Nigeria, Rwanda and Gabon competing for a slot to the finals to be held in Poland from September 3 to 18.


 The Algerian team showed the first collection since the second phase of the qualifiers hosted by Tunisia where they secured a berth at the final phase by beating Morocco 3-0 and losing against the hosts 1-3 in Rhades.  


 "We will face a tough test in the World Championship pool against great powerhouses like Cameroon and Nigeria but we will do our best to qualify to the finals in Poland," Said the Algerian head coach


 "We need to do our best  to return back to the elite event after a long time we were behind, but I know this generation of players can do it," He added.
