The second round of the Zonal phase of the CAVB Continental Cup which acts as the long run Qualifier for the 2012 London Olympic Games is launched on Wednesday when Morocco hosts the first show of the 4 pools event which is considered one step towards the Olympics.
The 2nd round of the CAVB Continental Cup features 4 pools for each gender to be organized in five countries Morocco, Togo, Congo Brazzaville, Nigeria and Algeria during the month of October 2011 where the top two of each pool qualify directly to the finals of the Continental Cup to be held next year. The winner of the finals will secure a ticket to London 2012
The Moroccan Volleyball Federation decided to organize the first second round tournament in Agadir which hosted last week one of the Swatch World Tour stops.
Rwanda, Algeria and Morocco are the candidates for the second round take off and carrying the hopes of the qualification to the Olympics
The first day of the competition in Agadir showed the first victory for Algeria men’s team over the solid Rwandan team after a thrilling action and good performance form both teams.
In the competition second day Morocco will line up against Rwanda in the Women’s event while Morocco face Algeria in the Men’s event.
The 2nd round of the zonal phase will qualify the 8 top countries (the top 2 teams in each pool in both genders) to the final phase which will take place in each of the five continents in June 2012.
