Abuja, Nigeria, May 10, 2011- The groundbreaking International Refereeing Candidate Course was opened in Nigerian capital of Abuja on 6th of May with a lot of interest at all the Nigerian media being one of the biggest referee courses in the continent in the framework of the ambitious CAVB Strategic Planning that was implemented at the end of 2010.
 The course that continues till 13th of May attracted 25 participants among them 24 are African states and one from the Caribbean island of AHO/EUX. What was impressive also is the participation of two female referees which helps to support the list of the African women referees already including 6 women. 
 The opening ceremony had the attendance of the Nigerian Minister of sports, the General Director of national sports commission, the President of Nigerian Volleyball Federation, and the Secretary General of Nigerian Volleyball Federation.
 The opening ceremony also was attracted a lot of written media from the daily newspapers as well as the TV Channels.
The course is directed by the CAVB Referee Commission President Mr. Hassan Mohammed from Egypt and instructed by Mr. Klaus Fezer from Germany as a support from the International Volleyball Federation FIVB.
 “I’m happy to see this number of participants here in Abuja as this will improve a lot the standard of refereeing in Africa in the coming years,” Said Hassan Mohamed. “I want to send my special thanks to the two women referees Nzina Nsangov Angele from Cameroon and because they will aid our project to increase the number of women referees.”
