Botswana and Zambia through to finals of World Championship qualifier

Molepolole, Botswana, October 15, 2013- Botswana and Zambia qualified to finals of the 2014 FIVB World Championship qualifier after the fished finished first and second at Zone 6 qualification tournament herd at Institute of Health Sciences in Molepolole, Botswana this weekend.

 

 Botswana continued its zonal dominance by winning the 6 nation tournament with a win- loss ratio of 5-0 dropping only one set in 5 matches to qualify to Pool 2 of the final qualification round to be held in Egypt. Runner up Zambia qualified also to pool 2 according to the drawing of lots done in Cairo last week.

 

 Zambia came second with 3-2 record by the set quotient ahead of Zimbabwe who had the seame win- loss ratio. Lesotho came fourth (2-3), while Mozambique came fifth (1-4) with the set qualitient ahesd of Namibia who finished in the 6th place.

 

 Botswana Volleyball Federation Vice President-Technical George Keotsene, said the games went well in Molepolole village although some difficulties in the facilities. “The games have been good and all went according to plan,” he said.

 

About the performance of the participating teams he said: “The standard has improved compared to the previous qualifiers and teaams were better prepared.” Keotsene, turning to the local lads, observed that despite the improvement of the participating countries, Botswana lads are a cut above the other countries and they are yet to be tested in a tough match.

 

“Our performance so far is better than other teams and it does not give idea on how we will perform against strong opponents in the finals in Egypt” said Keotsene.
