2014 FIVB World Championship- African Qualifier
Gaborone, Molepolole,Botswana(IHSSportsHall)October ,8 2013- Host Botswana started on a positive note by demolishing their opponent Mozambique 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-19) in the opening day of Zone 6 qualifier to the 2014 Men's World Championship.
Botswana played a highly organised match as coach Manuel Torres played with most of his stars. In the dying end of the second set he made four changes by introducing Bokao “Btex” Nagafela, for Rebaone Pastor, Nlebesi Mpapho for the setter Tjiyapo Madeluka and Alec Engliton for Shadrack Kapeko. Mozambique showed defencive problems that helped Botswana to achieve the victory.
Opening day featured aslo a much improved Zimbabwe came from behind to secure a 3-2 win over Lesotho. Former Diphatsa Volleyball club (Botswana) in the likes of Robert Tawanda Mafuva and Mthabisi Ndlovu did exceptionally well to earn points for Zimbabwe.
The third and last game of the opening day saw Zambia walloping Namibia 3-0 (25-21, 25-18,25-16) to end the program of the day . The first day attracted more than 200 spectators with most of them supporting Botswana team as their performance was superb.
The top two teams in zone 6 will proceed to the third phase of African qualifier to be held January and February 2014.
