Inatek, Pipeline win Genocide Memorial champs gold

Kigali, Rwanda, June 4, 2013- Inatek University and Kenya Pipeline rewrote history as they won their first Genocide Memorial Volleyball Tournaments in Rwanda on Sunday.


 Inatek defeated defending Champions APR 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-23) in a game that Ugandan Lawrence Yakan was a no show for APR. Inatek’s Madson Flacide and Herve Kagimbura went rebellious with their blocks and attack.


The strategy was to stop Yakan succeeded, but also their service was always hard for APR to deal with.


“Winning a very high standard tournament like this one in our first final is historical for us,” said Inatek’s captain Kagimbura.


With a total of 14 men’s teams at the competition, Kagimbura still counted his side lucky to come out on top.


“I didn’t give my team a chance,” he added.


Intatek had earlier defeated Uganda’s Nemostars 3-0 in the quarter finals before defeating the National Youth side of Rwanda 3-1 in the semifinals.


Seven time African Club Champions Kenya Pipeline also afforded to celebrate a sweet victory in the absence of their better rivals Kenya Prisons.


Pipeline defeated Rwanda Revenue Authority 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-13) to win the lady’s final on their first appearance at the tournament.


Uganda finishes fourth


With four men’s sides (KAVC, Nemostars, Sky, Sport-S) and three women clubs (KAVC, KCCA, Ndejje Elites), Uganda could only finish fourth.


Sky and Ndejje Elites lost their third place playoff to National Youth 3-2 and APR 3-0 respectively.
