Rwanda men and Kenya women clinch gold

 Mombasa, Kenya, April 24, 2013- Neighbours Rwanda and Kenya captured Gold medals at the CAVB U 23 Beach Volleyball Cup held at Jacaranda Indian Beach Resort in Mombasa, Kenya April 17 to 22, 2013. The competition was also a qualifier for African Zone 4, 5, 6 and 7 to the FIVB U 23 World Championship to be held at Poland.


  Rwanda Men's U 23 team clinched the gold medal following their victory over Zimbabwe in the final match 2-0 (21-17, 21-19) after a great fight from the winner's pairing of Olivier / Thierry. Zimbabwe duo of Katemanyoka/ Chiozwa fought well and showed that their country is upcoming


 In the Bronze medal match Egypt's pairing Rashid/Askalani took over host Kenya's Eknoit / Walukaya 2-0 (21-18, 21-13) to win the third position and leave the Kenyans at the fourth standings.


 The competition showed also the participation of Uganda and Chad who were eliminated from the pool stage.


 Now Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Egypt secured the three tickets of this pool at the FIVB World Championship of this age category be held in Myslowice, Poland June 6-9, 2013.


 In the women side the 4 nation round robin tournament was headed by host Kenya who defeated Uganda 2-0 (21-12, 21-19) in the third and final day. The Kenya duo of Gaudencia / Naomie won their previous matches against Zimbabwe 2-0 (21-18, 21-14 and )Rwanda 2-1 (21-18, 9-21, 15-8) to win the gold with win- loss ratio of 3-0 ahead of Rwanda who came second with 2-1 record and Zimbabwe gained the bronze medal (1-2) leaving Uganda at the forth position.  


 Kenya, Rwanda and Zimbabwe secured also the World Championship ticket at the women side.
