Alger, Algeria, March 30, 2013- Algerian women volleyball clubs NB Bejaia and GS Petroliers will represent their country at the upcoming Women's African Club championship to be held in Antananarivo, Madagascar April 4 to 14, 2013 being the champions and runner up of the local competition this season.
Bejaia will be led by technically the head coach Halim Hani and in the field by the National team star Narimane Madani who played more than 100 matches with the Algerian national team.
GS Petroliers will be conducted by the experienced coach Salim Achouri who have a great input through the ten years National team captain Fatma Zohra Oukazi.
More than 22 teams were registered to participate in the prestigious event which acts as a qualifier for the FIVB Club World Championship next October. The African champions will represent Africa at the FIVB event.
Among other contenders for the title are the Kenyan champions Prisons who represented Africa in the last three editions of the World Championship in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and their compatriots Pipeline who have the record number of African titles (7 cups).
Ahly of Egypt who have 5 titles under their built come also as a heavy favourites with their new formation aiming at regaining the cup they won for the last time in 2009.
Algeria's Patrollers come also as big contenders having won the cup twice in 1988 and 2002.
With their performance in the last few years Rwandan champions APR and Cameroon clubs are expected to go through the finals of the competition.
