Uganda, March 23, 2013- Uganda’s only Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) female referee Hadija Namanda will represent Uganda at her fifth African Club Championship.
Namanda has been at the games four times before, twice as a player and the other two as a referee.
Namanda will be joined by clubs Nemo Stars for the men’s African Club Championship to be hosted by Libya together with Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club, while Ndejje University will represent Uganda in the Women’s championship in Madagascar.
She is confident the three Ugandan sides have what it takes to earn respect from other clubs.
Especially men’s side Nemostars who together with KAVC and Ndejje University represent Uganda at the 2013 edition of the CAVB Club Championship, they only need to stay focused.
“Nemo is a very strong team and I believe even at their maiden appearance, they will be very impressive,” Namanda said.
At times teams use professionals from Europe and Asia but the former KAVC attacker is sure Africa’s powerhouses won’t easily intimidate Nemo.
“Sticking to their (Nemo) game plan will do them good, they could make it to the quarters and beyond,” she added.
Good reception and proper court cover can win teams championships though the ability to block against very tall players is always an added advantage.
It can be called blessing in disguise as two women teams (KAVC, Ndejje) will take part in the CAVB women club championship in Madagascar from April 5-17.
In 2009, KAVC played INJIS from Cameroonian and lost to it at a tiebreaker though in a game the Kampala team could have easily won, to date, INJIS has always made it to semis.
Kenya, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, are all powerhouses and favuorites to win both men and women competitions.
