Rwanda coach Bitok, eye on final spot of African Men's Junior Champs

8 March 2013

Tunis, Tunisia, March 7, 2013- After the qualification of Rwanda to the FIVB Men's Junior World Championship for the first time in the history of the country, the Kenyan coach of the team Paul Bitok is now optimistic to do more for the Rwandan volleyball through finishing victorious in their semifinal match against the giants Egypt in the 2013 Men's Junior African Nations Championship to be held on Friday in the Tunisian capital.

Rwanda never qualified to the final of any indoor volleyball continental championship in their history, but they had only one gold medal to their name in the Beach Junior Cup last year and now they are searching for a new era in indoor volleyball also.

"I'm happy with the performance of my team, I want to congratulate my players and also the local authorities for their support," Said Rwanda head coach Paul Bitok.

"I want to send a message to the government in Rwanda that this team satisfies their ambitions and after the hard work they did in the last few years. We finished fourth in Both Men and Women Junior championships two years ago and now we are looking forwards to achieve more for the country,"

Bitok who is the Rwandan National teams coach is now taking care of all the age category Rwandan teams through a strategy depending on collecting the young players from whole areas of the central African country through three centers covering the whole country.

"I can refer our progress in the last few years to three main reasons, the proper support from the government, the regular participation in the continental competitions and the psychological and technical preparations to this event. I can now promise that Rwanda will be in the near future one of the top African countries in volleyball." he concluded.

Rwanda plays Egypt in the first semifinal of the African championship, while Tunisia meets Morocco in the second semifinal, but the four semifinalists have already secured the four continental tickets to the FIVB Men's Junior (U 21) World Championship to be held in Turkey later this summer.
