Girls Youth African Nations Championship- Day 3

Egypt hammers Tunisia to claim title

Cairo, Egypt, April 3, 2011- Egypt girls volleyball team claimed the title of African Girls Championship following their victory over the North African compatriots 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-11) in the third and final day of the competition held in Cairo, Egypt.

Egypt and the runner up Algeria secured the two slots of Africa at the 2011 FIVB Girls Youth World Championship to be held in Turkey later this year.

The Egyptian team dominated the final match due to the impermeable blocks of Farida El Askalany and the skillful setting by Laila Mahfouz who was chosen the competition best setter.

In the third set the Egyptian spiker Aya El Shamy played her best to lead Egypt to straight sets victory and was chosen the competition MVP.

Egypt finished the 3 nation round robin at the first position with a win- loss ratio of 2-0, while Algeria came at the second position with 1-1 ratio. Tunisia finished in the third and last position with 0-2 record.
