Tarrafal, Cape Verde, November 28, 2012- Cape Verde men second team and Senegal women team claimed gold medals of Zone 2 Beach volleyball championship held at Tarrafal beach. 60kms from Praia, the capital Cape Verde on November 10 and 11, 2012.
The competition is considered as one of the major events in zone 2 in the framework of CAVB Development Plan.
The tournament saw the participation of Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Senegal and Cape Verde, the host country where they played a round robin format during the two days.
Cape Verde 2 team dominated the men championship winning all the matches while Senegal came second and Guinea Bissau third.
Senegal captured the women title by winning all her matches without dropping a set, while Cape Verde came second and Gambia third.
Upon arrival the teams were received by Cap Verde Volleyball Federation President Antonio Carlos Rodriguès, the President of the League of Volleyball of Praia and the Mayor of the town of Tarrafal who attended all the competition.
The tournament is played as formula of Championship under the supervision of the Control Committee set up by the Zone 2 and consisting of: Mr Musa Cassa Taal (General Secretary of Zone 2), President; Mr Amadou Anna Seye, International Referee, Manager of Referees; and Mr Mbaye Dème (Technical Director of Zone 2), the Tournament Director.
The closing ceremony was by the President of Zone 2, Mamadou NDOYE, the Mayor of Tarrafal and all members of the Cape Verde Volleyball Federation, with the presentation of the trophies and medals to the winners.
A lot of media as well as written press were attracted to cover the event live at the marvelous beaches and in particular by the Cape Verdean TV who did interviews to all players and organizers.
