Nairobi, Kenya, August 17, 2011- Host Kenya, defending champions Algeria and favorites Tunisia started all victorious as the 2011 Women’s African Nations Championship gets underway at Nazarene Hall in Nairobi, Kenya on Wednesday.
The six times African champions Kenya starts their way in the competition with a straight sets victory over Nigeria in the death Pool A. Tunisia see off Botswana in the strongest of the opening day matches 3-1, while Algeria took over Senegal 3-0 in Pool B.
Nine teams are participating in the prestigious African championship and competing for the continental berth at the coming 2011 FIVB World Cup to be held in Japan later this year.
In front of the home crowd at the hall that hosted early this year the African club Championship the Kenyan team went stable to clinch a straight sets victory over Nigeria to boost their ambitions to return back the title after being absent in the last edition in Algeria.
