Entebbe, Uganda, November 11, 2012- No one would easily predict the outcome of the 4th and last leg of the Club National Beach Volleyball Circuit on the 28th October 2012 at Lido beach resort. Even the early morning rains didn’t deter the zealous players from aspiring for the ultimate. In the women’s category it was a clear do-or-die as several contenders for the throne kept eliminating one another from the quarterfinals till the finals match.
Okecho Alice who had held the seed-one position since August paired this time round with Nuwagaba Sophy but lost the trend after colleagues 3rd placed Pajije Sharon and Aketch Vivienne engaged a typical battle at the quarterfinals, winning in straight sets (2-0) 21-15, 21-9. The Aketchs however succumbed to rank 4th placed seed Nammanda Josepine & Agaba Diaina at semifinal (2-1). Thereon, the contest pitied the Nammanda’s against the seasoned & consistent pair of Buyungo Shila and Nambasa Margaret who emerged victors in a 2-1 thriller lifting the 4th leg of the Club National Beach Volleyball Circuit. Buyungo and Nambasa ended the season as joint 2012 seed-ones in the women’s category.
The men’s category with similar pressures got favorites Otim & Okello eliminated at semifinals by a poised team of Kato Emma and Limo Dickson (2-0) 22-20, 21-18. The Katos finally lifted the concluding men’s honor against a stubborn Ainebyona / Omedo duo. However Dickens Otim retained the position of 2012 seed-one men that effectively positions him and the two top ladies for the special recognition at the Annual National Gala in December.
Now all eyes are focused on the 7th edition of the Club Beach Volleyball Championship slated for the 17th and 18th of November 2012. The two day Club sponsored event will feature teams from the East African region including Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and hosts Uganda in both genders. Uganda is currently defending both the men and women’s crowns.
