Ahly meets their compatriots El Guish in a thrilling semifinal

Cairo, Egypt, May 3, 2011 – Defending champions Al Ahly will face off against their compatriots in Egypt El Guish in the 2011 Men’s African Club Championship semifinal on Wednesday while the two dark horses Prisons of Kenya and National University of Rwanda battle for the other spot in the final seeking the honor to represent Africa in the Club World Championship.

 

 The eventual champions of this tournament will earn a spot at the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship, set to take place later this year in Qatar.

 

 The competition continued by the quarterfinal 9 to 16 on Tuesday with OSB (Nigeria), GSU (Kenya) Inter Club (Congo Brazzaville) and Daim Hamad (SUD) emerging as winners to compete for the 9-12 brackets while the losers Al Nahda,  Al Saggana from Sudan and Redskins from (Lesotho) and Rukinzo (Burundi) play for the 13 to 16 rankings.

 

OSB (NGR) vs. Al Nahda (SUD)

 

 OSB of Nigeria fought for 95 minutes to clinch 3-1 (25-11, 17-25, 25-13, 25-18) over Al Nahda (SUD). Although the Nigerain team started the match with low motivations after they missed the qualification to the final 8, they won the first set. Nahda emerged in the second set to draw 1-1 before OSB came up again to win two successive sets and the match 3-1.

 

GSU (KEN) vs. Redskins (LES)

 

 GSU club of Kenya hammered Redskins of Lesotho 3-0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-17) in a strong match led by the winners and lasting 70 minutes.  

 

Inter Club (CGO) vs. Al Saggana (SUD)

 

 Inter Club of Congo Brazzaville swept Al Saggana of Sudan 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-13) in a one side game overwhelmed by the winners. 

 

Rukinzo (BUR) vs. Daim Hamad (SUD)

 

 In the most difficult match of the day Daim Hamad of Sudan survived the sluggish start to defeat Rukinzo of Burundi 3-1 (19-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20) in 82 minutes. After Rukinzo had a good start in the first set to win it 25-19, Daim Hamad played their best in the competition and deployed their block against the attacks of their opponent to win three successive sets.
