Cairo, Egypt, April 26, 2011- Sixteen teams are expected to fight for a Club World Championship berth when they compete together at the 2011 Men’s African Club Championship to start at Ahly Club in Cairo, Egypt from 28 April to 7 May. The competition will be held at Abdalla El Faysal Hall in Ahly Club that hosted the event two times in the last decade in 2003 and 2009.
The prestigious competition that act as a qualifier to the 2011 FIVB Men’s African Club Championship was expected to attract more clubs to compete, but the sudden withdrawal of Morocco to organize the event two weeks ago affected negatively the number of participating teams in the competition that showed a record of 22 participants in the last edition in Tunisia last year.
The drawing of lots for the competition will be done on Wednesday where the teams will be divided into 4 preliminary pool and the top two teams of which will qualify to the quarterfinal. The winners of the quarters will continue to their pathway to the semifinal and final. The third and fourth of each of the preliminary pools will play for the 9- 16 brackets.
The all time record holders Al Ahly of Egypt will be the greatest favorite to add one more crown to the 8 titles under their built specially in the absence of their arch rivals Zamalek who had a last minute withdrawal.
Zamalek played the last three finals against Ahly in Libya 2008, Egypt 2009 and Tunisia 2010 in what was described as all Egyptian final wining the first and second events.

The Algerian champions Blida and Setif come as the biggest competitors for the country that won the silver medal of the 2009 African Nations Championship.
FAP and Port of Cameroon are also big forces as both teams are regular participants constituting the teams qualifying to the decisive rounds of the competition.
Prisons of Kenya want to make the double after their women counterparts qualify to the World Championship early this month with their local compatriots General Service Unit.
Other participating teams are Daim Hamad, Al Saggana and Al Nahda from Sudan, Sunshine brothers from Nigeria, Rukinzo from Burundi, Redskins from Lesotho, Inter Club form Congo Brazzaville and the National University of Rwanda.
