Nairobi, Kenya, September 25, 2012- The Kenya Volleyball Federation Women's National league match between Kenya Prisons and Nairobi Water was scheduled to be played at Nyayo National Stadium on September 28. The match is considered as one of the final preparations for Kenya Prisons to participate in the 2012 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Doha, Qatar.
The final was early planned to take place during the final leg of the competition scheduled for October 5 in Eldoret but the date is viewed as to be too close to the FIVB World Women's Clubs Championships where Prisons are Africa representatives.
Prisons depart on October 9 for the World Clubs Championships which runs from October 13-19.
KVF National Sports Organising Secretary Walter Otieno said: "The federation has decided to fix the match for this Friday (September 28) so as to accord Prisons ample time to prepare for the World Clubs Championships."
Otieno emphasised that the other league fixtures shall go on as planned in Eldoret.
KVF first vice chairman Charles Nyaberi announced last Sunday that they have exempted Prisons from the league assignment to allow them concentrate on the Doha event.
This was after Prisons coach David Lung'aho raised fears that traveling to Eldoret may fatique the players ahead of the crucial global competition.
Prisons match with Nairobi Water is their last league assignment this season. The wardresses are unbeaten in 13 matches meaning they have already qualified for the play-off.
Skipping their match against Nairobi Water could have done the wardresses no harm but handed the fourth-placed Nairobi Water a walk-over and a possible passage to play-offs.
Prisons are currently training at Nyayo National Stadium in readiness for the World Clubs Championships where they are returning for the third time.
Lung'aho has invited fans to come in large number and watch their match with Nairobi Water.
"This is a very important match for us because it's our last competitive event before we leave for Doha," he said while welcoming the KVF decision to bring the clash to Nairobi.
