Cairo, Egypt, September 7, 2012- African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” Extraordinary Congress was opened on Friday in Cairo, Egypt headed by CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani in presence of a record of 48 countries.
Egyptian Deputy Minister of Sport Kamal El Nagdy opened the Congress events in presence of the guests of honour; FIVB Vice President and CSV President Ary Graça, AVC vice president Issa Hamza, AVC Board member and Qatar VB Fed President Khalid Al Mawlawi, Emirates VB Fed President Youssif El Molla, JVA Executive Board member Yuichiro Hamu.
Elwani thanked in his welcome speech all the NFs for their attendance in this big majority and their emerging activity during the year 2012 and specially since the 2011 CAVB Congress that showed the election of the current board. He welcomed the guests of honour and evaluated the conditions leading to this extraordinary Congress to study the constitution amendments that will be presented during FIVB Congress in USA September 19- 20, 2012.
He presented the CAVB Activity report in PowerPoint as he showed the great Development Program which was implemented last year in the framework of CAVB Development Strategy. He also pointed out the great success of the men and women Club Championships in Tunisia and Kenya respectively with a record of participating teams in both edition; 21 clubs in the men and 18 in the women. Elwani showed the value of the Continental Cup to increase the activity of the African Countries who can’t afford the indoor volleyball and thus the increase of the total countries participating in the CAVB Activity to 43 countries.
The congress then studied the amendments of the constitution that will be voted during the next FIVB Congress in USA.
Mr Emilio Spirito from Italy presented the Data Project that will be applied for African competitions to upload the official web site with the results, statistics and live scores. He showed in his presentation the value of using the system for the coaches, players and the media.
