Alger, Algeria, September 5, 2012- Mourad Sennoun was nominated as a coach for Algerian Men’s National Volleyball team to lead the team in the 2012 Arab Nations Championship to be held in November 2012.
The new coach will conduct the first training session on September 10 in Alger. He will lead the Algerian volleyball of the 2012 Arab Nations Championship next November and will conduct the team for the long run 2016 African Olympic Qualifications.
Sennoun will replace Kamel Imloul and Layazid Assef who achieved the silver medal at the 2009 Men’s African Nations Championship, the fourth the position at the 2011 edition, the silver medal at the 2011 All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique and the bronze medal at the 2011 All Arab Games in Doha, Qatar.
The new Algerian coach was one of the Algerian golden generation that won the 1991 African Nations Championship in front of 30.000 spectators at Cairo Stadium Complex. He continued his 95 caps to qualify to 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games till they defend their African title in 1993. He played with a group of Algerian icons specially the duo Abderahmane Slimane and Toufik Benomari. He played as a professional in France with Narbonne Club
He started his coaching career after completing studies at the Institute of Sports Ain Benian in Algeria. He conducted Nahdey, USM Blida (Algeria), Sfax (Tunisia) and a club in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). He also worked as an assistant to Hassen Allouche, where he won the 2000 Arab Nations Championship in Amman.
The new coach will face a busy calendar in the coming two years as he will start with the Arab Championship in November before making the suitable preparations for the Mediterranean Games in Turkey June 2013 and then the main target, the 2013 African Nations Championship.
