Entebbe, Uganda, September 4, 2012- New kids on the block Alupo Christine and Busingye Peace put seasoned players to task by lifting the 3rd leg of the Club Beach Volleyball Circuit played on Sunday 26th August 2012 at Lido Beach Resort Entebbe. The youthful Ndejje University students came second at pool level after the Pajije Sharon, Aketch Vivian combination but managed to stop tricky side of Buyungo Shilla & Nambasa Margaret at quarterfinal 2-0 (21-19, 21-16) before ending Nammanda Josephine and Agaba Diana’s trend at semifinal in a tight game 2-1 (15-21, 24-22, 15-12) to set up the day’s final against seniors Okecho Alice and Okiror Lillian. Alupo and Busingye pairing only for the 3rd time in the season were then unstoppable winning the final against the Okecho/Okiror duo in straight sets 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) to lift the maiden crown in their beach volleyball career.
Favorites Namata Andrina / Tabitha Mercy succumbed to Nammanda Josephine and Agaba Diana earlier at Quarterfinal 2-1 (13-21, 21-19, 15-13) just like contemporaries Pajije Sharon/Aketch Vivian who were eliminated at quarters by tough posturing Alobo Prossy/Nakalema Hafsa 2-0 (23-21, 21-11). Runner up Okecho Alice comfortably climbed to the women’s top with 410 points while Namata/Tabitha settled for 2nd position with 405 points. In third place a bunch of four ladies are tied at 400 points including pairs Buyungo/Nambasa and Pajije/Aketch.
The men’s category was another going concern for Nsubuga Hannington and Omedo Isaac who re-echoed their current supremacy, edging top seed Otim Dickens and Okello Ambrose in a close tie-breaker 2-1 (21-14, 18-21, 15-13) and counting 2 Gold in the season. The Nsubuga’s had earlier stopped Ainebyona Amon with Mwenyi Mathew at semifinal 2-0 (21-10, 21-16) while the Otim’s had likewise ended Lakony Tony & Fundy Evan’s chances 2-0 (21-14, 21-12).
In spite of another loss, Otim remains the men’s seed one with 470 points followed by Omedo Isaac and Ainebyona Amon in 2nd and 3rd positions with 450 points and 445 points respectively.
37 teams graced the one day Nile Breweries sponsored tournament. The next local event shall be on October the 28th where mainly the earmarked national squad will feature in a special precursor to the Club International Championship slated for 17th and 18th November 2012. The Federation intends to call to camp its national squad later in September.
The 3rd leg circuit was presided over by the President Uganda Volleyball Federation, Sadik Nasiwu flanked by the sponsor representative Peter Sunday.
