Cairo, Egypt, August 29, 2012- International Volleyball Federation “FIVB” President Jizhong Wei accompanied with FIVB 2nd Executive Vice-President Theofanis Tsiokris, FIVB Vice President and CEV President André Meyer visited the African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” Headquarters in Cairo on Tuesday where they made an inspection visit for the Confederation work as they met the CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani and the whole staff.

 

 After FIVB delegation visited the confederation departments and talked to the whole staff on site, they started a meeting with Elwani and CAVB Executive Director Mrs Howyda Mondy where they discussed the great development of volleyball in Africa through the ambitious Development strategy supported by FIVB.

 

 Dr Elwani clarifies that the number of National Federations actively participating in the whole continental championships and activities increased from 13 countries in 2001 when the Headquarters transferred to Cairo to 43 countries in 2011.

 

 He also showed the procedure of the increased participation through the zonal competitions that secure lower cost to transfer the teams to competition site depending on geographical location of these neighbouring countries.

 

They discussed also the role of the Continental Cup, which was the qualification process to 2012 London Olympic Games in increasing the Continental activity through the wide participation of most of the NFs.

 

 FIVB President was happy to see the outcome of the great support to Africa as he said that FIVB will continue supporting Africa after the big development he followed up during his visits to the different continental countries.

 

 The FIVB members followed up the flow of the work in the confederation before having a round up visit to the main monuments in Cairo specially the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum.

 

 “We are happy with this visit which is the first ever from the FIVB great members to the CAVB Headquarters in Egypt,” Elwani said.

 

 “We are now more ambitious to develop our beloved sport to reach the world level specially at the beach volleyball level which showed a great jump forwards in the last two years.” He added.

 

 The Egyptian TV made interviews with the FIVB guests where they expressed their happiness to visit Egypt and follow up the volleyball activity in Africa through visiting the CAVB Headquarters.
