Saint Upsets Farafenni in the Inter-Schools Volleyball final

Gambia, July 5, 2012- Saint Augustine Senior Secondary School defeated Farafenni Senior Secondary School in the inter-schools Boys Volleyball final 2-0 at the Abuko Volleyball Court this weekend.   


 The competition comes as a part of Gambia Volleyball Federation Development Plan that encourages the boys and girls at this young age to practice volleyball.


 The tournament, which was organized by the Secondary Schools Sports Association (SSSA), brought together Upper and Senior Secondary Schools from all regions.


 Saint dominant played their best as they took control of the first and second sets, by 25-20 and 25-21, in a remarkable performance to overcome their opponents.  


 Despite putting up a respectable performance, the North Bank representative and former champions Farafenni could not match the outstanding Saint Augustine’s side.


 After the final whistle, Farafenni Volleyball team’s assistant coach Yusupha Colley said he was proud of his boys’ performance. “Many people said that volleyball is not a village game, but we have proven them wrong today,” Colley remarked.


 Colley noted that though they have done well in the competition, but things was not that much easy for them, because they were playing every day.


 The captain of Saint Augustine, Alex Amiyawo said he was very excited after winning his first trophy for his school as a captain. Alex added that due to early preparation they were able to win the Volleyball final.


 In the female category, Saint Joseph also defeated The Gambia Methodist Academy 2-0 (25-10, 25-17 respectively.


 According to the organizers, trophies and prizes will be given to winners and runners up in a presentation ceremony later.
