Nairobi, Kenya, June 23, 2012- Kenyan team comprising of Margaret Indakala/Dorcas Ndasaba and Eunice Maiyo/Edna Rotich leave Nairobi on Tuesday (June 26, 2012) for Russian City Moscow to compete in FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup to take place on June 28 to July 1.
The eventual winners and runners-up of the World Cup, which will be contested between the silver and bronze medalists from the five Beach Volleyball Continental Cups qualify for 2012 London Olympics.
They will join the winners of the AVC, CAVB, CEV, CSV and NORCECA Continental Cups as well as the top 16 countries from the World rankings (with a maximum of two berths per country) and hosts Great Britain.
Kenya lost to Mauritius in the African Continental Cup final held in Togo on May 27 as they winners secured early tickets to London.
Kenya Volleyball Federation Secretary General Evans Wasike confirmed that the pair of Ndasaba/Indakala have linked up with the rest of the teammates in Nairobi ahead of the departure date of Tuesday.
Beach team is the only hope for Kenyan after the national side for indoor volleyball was eliminated during African Olympics Qualification round played in Algeria last March.
The World Cup format will be the best two out of three matches, instead of three out of five, with a golden set deciding the third match if necessary.
Teams will be split into two pools with the top two countries qualifying for the two final games per gender valid to qualify for the Olympic Games.
