Gusenyi, Rwanda, May 24,,2012 – Seven African beach Volleyball teams will start their thrilling fight for 2012 London Olympic Game Vacancy when they compete together at the CAVB Women’s Continental Cup final at Palm Beach in Gusenyi, Rwanda on Thursday.
The winners of the single elimination tournament will secure their tickets to London, while second and third have another chance of qualification through the FIVB World Cup.
Participating teams are hosts Rwanda as well as Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Mauritius, Congo RDC and Algeria.
The competition is expected to be a fierce struggle with a number of tight face offs expected to be played specially in the semifinal.
The Technical Meeting was conducted on Wednesday where the drawing of lots was done in presence of all the participating team representatives. The top seeded Kenya receives bye at the first round. Second seeded Mauritius meets Congo RD who surprised the African arena with their performance during the zonal phase.
The Mauritian pairing of Natacha Rigobert and Elodie Li Yuk Lo just returning from FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour in China are ready again for this final stage of the Continental Cup after an impressive gold medal performance at the 2011 All Africa Games.
After South Africa grabbed the African slot at the CAVB Men’s Continental Cup final last April in Mauritius, their women counterparts are ready to battle for the same dream, when they battle against hosts Rwanda in the first round.
While Algerian teams remain with the same pairing from the Zonal phase, the South African delegation has introduced news pairing, only the 28-years-old South African Sekhonyana William is pairing up with Paleasa Sekhonyana as the South Africa team 1.
