 Cairo, Egypt, December 11, 2018- African Volleyball Confederation "CAVB" opened the registrations for All National Federations to Participate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.


The World Volleyball governing body "FIVB" released the Volleyball qualification pathway for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in two steps as follows:


Step 1.            FIVB Men's and Women's Volleyball International Olympic Qualification Tournaments, involving the 24 highest ranked National Federations as per the FIVB World Ranking for Senior Teams as of 1 October 2018 (Men) and 21 October 2018 (women), split in 6 events of 4 teams each and which will be held from to 4 August 2019 for Women and from to 11 August 2019 for Men, respectively in various cities.


Step 2.            The Continental Olympic Qualification Tournaments for both genders to be held in each of the 5 Confederations in January 2020.


The CAVB put the timeline for registrations as follows


- 28 February 2019: All NFs to Register and Confirm participation.


- 31 March 2019: Confirmation of the participating teams per gender and determination of the competition format and phases. If more than 16 teams are registered in either gender, then Zonal Qualifiers will be held. If 16 or less teams are registered, only the Continental Final Qualifier will be held.


- 30 April 2019: Determination of the Zonal Qualifiers dates and venues.


- 30 June 2019: Determination of the Hosts for the Men's and Women's Continental Final Qualifiers.


- November / December 2019: Zonal Qualifiers to be held where applicable


-  January 2020: Continental Olympic Qualifiers to be held
