Nairobi, Kenya, May 11, 2012- African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” President Dr Amr Elwani held a press Conference in Nairobi, Kenya on Friday along with CAVB Board members and the NFs presidents attending the 2012 Women’s African Club Championship where he declared the full support of all the attendance to the candidacy of FIVB vice President Dr. Ary da Silva Graça as the next FIVB President for the period 2012-2016.
The Conference, covered by the Kenyan TV, was attended by CAVB Vice President and KVF president Waithiaka Kioni, CAVB Vice President Camilo Antao (MOZ), Zone 4 President Frederic Ndounda (GAB) and SOC President Lucbeau Kalala (RD Congo) as well as presidents of most of the NFs participating in the Club Competition.
Elwani declared that most of the African NFs are now supporting the candidature of Graça following the agreement he attended with the FIVB Vice Presidents Dr. Saleh Bin Nasser of Saudi Arabia, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz of Dominican Republic and Graça who preside over the African, Asian, Norceca and South American Confederations respectively where they adopted their decision welcomed later by the CAVB Board of Administration.
“The coalition seems to be very strong and collected all the NFs under one flag to support Graça and confirms the endorsement of this support continental wise,” added Elwani.
In response to a question from one of the Kenyan journalists asking about the KVF situation regarding the support of Graça, and the possibility of the arrival of the other candidate for FIVB presidency Doug Beal, KVF President Kioni stated that his federation supports what is announced by CAVB President and adopted by the Board of Administration.
“We didn’t receive any official information about the arrival of the other candidate for the FIVB Presidency Mr Doug Beal and none of the Kenyan official authorities invite him to attend the competition including the Kenyan Olympic Committee.” Kioni added.
“As it is mainly CAVB Competition Beal should communicate officially with the confederation before coming to an African Competition like any FIVB member, however he will be welcomed as a normal guest.”
