21 teams to chase one ticket for the FIVB World Championship

 Nairobi, Kenya, May 5, 2012- Moi International Sports Center and African Nazarene University will be hive of activities as the venues host a packed CAVB African Women’s Clubs Championships on May 8-20.

Local Organising Committee (LOC) announced that a communication from CAVB Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt indicated that 21 teams out of 25 registered teams have entered the annual competition.

The previous event also played at the two venues attracted 16 teams.

Besides being crowned African champions, winners of the competition qualify to represent the continent in FIVB World Clubs Championships to be staged in Qatar October 13 to 19.

 The registered teams are: Defending champions Kenya Prisons and National Kenyan Champions Pipeline, Kenya Commercial Bank (Kenya); Daring Club Motema Pembe and Canon Ndjini (DR Congo); Stef Auto (Madagascar); Chlef (Algeria); DGSP (Congo Brazzaville); Stellar (Ivory Coast); FAP, Efoulon (Cameroon); APR and Rwanda Revenue Authority (Rwanda); Manga Sports and Varieties (Gabon); Nkumba University (Uganda); Les AS (Burundi); Water Sports (Ethiopia); Blue Eagles (Nigeria); Jeshi Stars (Tanzania) and Mafolofolo (Botswana).

While briefing the Media on the outcome of the LOC meeting at the KVF secretariat at Nyayo National Stadium on May 5, Chairman Waithaka Kioni said Nyayo National Stadium basketball gymnasium and MISC Annex hall have been identified as training venues.

“KVF are gearing towards hosting one of the biggest competitions in women’s volleyball,” he said.

 International volleyball competitions have always attracted big crowds in Nairobi and the local federation hopes that the trend continues in order to gain well from gate collections.

The program start on May 8 with arrival of teams and the technical meeting will be held the following day. Action starts on May 10.

Regular participants Egypt and Tunisia are absent in this year’s Championships.
