Day 3 Sousse, Tunisia, April 23, 2012- the host team Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia, the defending champions Ahly of Egypt as well as Bejaia of Algeria remain unbeaten after playing three matches in the 2012 Men’s African Club Championship held at Sousse, Tunisia to lead their respective pools at the end of the competition third day on Monday.
The third day featured a crucial victory for Ahly Egypt over the Esperance of Tunisia 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) in what is called the match of the day. Zamalek (EGY) hammered the last edition runner up in straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-22)
Algeria’s Borj Bouarirj set the third straight win against Ahly Beni Ghazi (25-18, 25-19, 25-17).
Etoile du Sahel led Pool A with 6 pts, while Ahly topped Pool B also with 6 pts. Pool C is dominated by Ahly Tripoli of Libya with 5 pts and Bejaia come ahead of pool D (6 pts)
The champions will guarantee a berth at the FIVB Club World Championship set to be held in Doha, Qatar from October 13 to 19.
The competition will be resumed on Tuesday with day four featuring 9 matches in the four preliminary pools.
Hosts Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia continued their winning rhythm and secured the third victory in raw against Sun Shine (NGR) 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-17). The Tunisian team led pool A with a win- loss ratio of 3-0 while Sun shine dropped to 0-2.
Borj Bouaririj of Algeria controlled the defense to beat Ahly Ben Ghazi (LBY) 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-17). The victory was the second for the Algerian team in two matches, while Ahly Beni Ghazi becomes 1-2.
In the toughest match of the day Al Ahly (EGY) took on Esperance (TUN) 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) towards the third straight win in pool B raising their record to 3-0, while the Tunisian team dropped to 2-1.
APR of Rwanda trounced Agosto (ANG) 3-0 (25-8, 25-17, 25-14) to refresh their dreams of a quarterfinal berth as they improved to 2-1 while Agosto dropped to 0-3.
GSU (KEN) set their second victory in three matches against Inter (Congo Brazzaville) 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 27-25). GSU improved their record to 2-1 while
The 4 time champions Zamalek (EGY) crushed Prisons (KEN) 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22) in a match easier than expected. The match was like a final for the top of the pool but Zamalek settled the situation due to the efficient defense. Zamalek improved to 2-0 while Prisons became 1-1
Ahly Tripoli (LBY) struggled specially in the first set to top Force Terrestre (Congo RD 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-18). Ahly Tripoli topped the pool with 2-1 while terrestre dropped to 1-2
El Guish (EGY) maintained their rhythm to stop FAP (CMR) resistance in their way to win 3-1 (25-23, 13-25, 25-15, 25-14). Guish became 2-0 while FAP 1-2.
Bejaia (ALG) continued their steady performance to beat Mwangaza (Congo RD) 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19). Bejaia kept their clean sheet 3-0, while Mwangaza dropped to 0-2.
