Sousse, Tunisia, April 19, 2012- Tunisia becomes ready to host the expected to be the golden edition for the Men’s African Club Championship due to start in Sousse, Tunisia on Saturday with all the giant forces ready to compete for the thirty first edition of the competition.
The eventual champions will secure a qualification ticket to the FIVB Club World Championship to be held in Qatar later this year. This adds more value to the competition that features 22 of the strongest clubs in the continent including most of the previous champions led by the record holder Al Ahly of Egypt who have 10 crowns under their name.
Egypt whose clubs won the last four editions and five out of the last six will be represented also by their arch rivals Zamalek who won four cups and Talaea El Guish who were the bronze medallists in the last edition.
The host Tunisia will be represented by three teams led by Sfax who won five titles, the last in 2005 as well as Esperence (3 titles) and Etoile du Sahel (2).
The competition will feature also other big contenders who are FAP of Cameroon, Ahly Tripoli (Libya) and Bejaia (Algeria).
The technical meeting of the competition will be organized on Friday where the participating teams will be divided into 4 preliminary pools. Each pool plays a round robin format and the top two teams qualify to the quarterfinals. Afterwards the competition will continue in a knock out format.
