Sierra Leone men team won the gold medal

Sierra Leone, November 2, 2017- Sierra Leone Men's Beach VB team earned a qualification ticket for the Commonwealth Games after they best South African in a thrilling final 2-1 (15-21, 21-16, 15-13) in the qualifiers hosted by Sierra Leone on the pristine sands of Lumley Beach in the capital Freetown from 27-29 October 2017. Rwanda won the Women's Ticket after they overcame Nigeria in the final.

 

Participating countries included South Africa, Mauritius, Seychelles, Lesotho, Rwanda, Nigeria and Ghana.

 

A pool of six Men and five Women teams played to a round robin with the four top teams progressing to the semi finals and finals respectively.

 

 Sierra Leone men and Rwanda women qualified a team sport to the maiden edition of the beach volleyball event at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth games in April.
