Kigali, Rwanda, May 31, 2011- CAVB President Dr. Amr Elwani completed a courtesy visit to Rwanda earlier this week where he had a valuable meetings with the governmental personalities there and he was received by the Rwandan Prime Minister Bernard Makuza and the Minister of Youth and Sports Mitali Protais.
During his visit to attend the Memorial Genocide Volleyball Tournament he was accompanied by the Rwandan Volleyball Federation board members led by the President of the federation Uyisenga Charles.
Elwani thanked the Prime Minister Makuza for his continuous support to volleyball in the country and asked him to complete the project of establishing a new modern hall to host the big continental and World level championships. The Prime Minister promised him to finish the work in the new hall as soon as possible to help his country to achieve more progress.
The Prime Minister welcomed also to host the development courses for the grass roots and Volleyball at school Programs in the framework of the CAVB Development Plan.
He also sent a message of support to the African Volleyball Confederation and its President Elwani to continue their work hard towards the development of the sport throughout the continent.
The meeting was televised by the Rwandan TV where Elwani had a detailed interview about his projects to develop the continental volleyball.
Elwani met also the Rwandan Minister of Youth and Sports Mitali Protais as he sent him his gratitude for his effort to support the sport generally and Volleyball specifically in the country which was reflected positively to the regularly participation of the Rwandan teams at the continental competitions and the results in last few years. He promised him to use the Egyptian protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to supply Rwanda with the technical support by coaches and expertise persons.
Rwanda is a regular competitor in continental tournaments, with the Rwandan Junior team qualifying to the semifinal of the continental championship last year and their champions National university of Rwanda finishing between the final four at the 2011 Men’s African Club championship in Cairo early this month.
