Mauritius, April 12, 2012- the drawing of lots for the CAVB Men’s Continental Cup finals will be held on Thursday in Mauritius ahead of the competition that show six teams competing for the African ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The participating countries are the African top seeded South Africa, Nigeria (Ranked 2nd), Angola (4th), Mauritius (5th) as Congo Brazzaville (6th) and Egypt (8th).
The competition will be held in a round robin format between the six countries with consolation, where the gold medalists will secure a direct ticket to London, while the second and third will have another chance of qualification through the World Cup.
The Flic en Flac beaches on the Western coast of Mauritius became ready to welcome the finals that start on Friday.
How the Qualifiers proceeded to the finals?
They are the top seeded African team that won the gold medal in the Sub Zonal phase in Namibia January 22, 23, 2011, then they won another gold during the zonal phase in Mozambique July 15- 17, 2012. They won a third gold during the second round of the zonal phase in Togo October 14- 16.
Nigeria is ranked second and proceeded to the finals through winning the gold medal in the sub zonal phase in Benin October 30- 31, 2010 and then they won another gold at the zonal phase in Ghana August 16-18 and finally they came second during the second round in their homelands October 28-30, 2011.
Angola is ranked fourth as they didn’t participate in the sub zonal phase , but they won the gold medal at the zonal phase in Gabon August 5-7, 2011 and they added another gold at the second round in Nigeria October 28- 30, 2011.
Mauritius is ranked fifth as they didn’t participate in the sub zonal phase and then they came third during the zonal phase in Mozambique July 15-17, 2011 and finally they came second at the second round in Congo Brazzaville October 21- 23, 2011
Congo Brazzaville is ranked sixth as they didn’t participate in the sub zonal phase, but they emerged in the zonal phase through winning the silver medals in Gabon August 5-7, 2011 before they gain the gold in their homelands October 21- 23, 2011.
Egypt is ranked eighth as they gained the gold medal in Sudan December 16-17, 2010 before they clinched the bronze at the zonal phase in Kenya July 27- 29, 2011. They finish second at the second round in Togo October 14-16, 2011.
