Cairo, Egypt, March 6, 2012- The African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” Beach volleyball Commission held its first meeting with the new formation on Monday March 5 in Cairo, Egypt to put the agenda of the busy 2012 season and put the development strategy of the sport after the great improvement following the start of the CAVB Continental Cup in 2010. Among other crucial issue the commission decided to grant the organization of the Men’s Continental Cup finals to Mauritius April 12 to 15, 2012 where the winner secures a berth at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Rwanda will organize the women’s Continental cup finals in May with the exact dates to be confirmed later. The beach commission put also the qualifications and final tournament for the first ever Junior and Youth African Beach Championships which act as qualifiers for the Junior and Youth World championships later this year. The zonal phase will qualify a total of 24 teams to the final phase where the top two countries of Zone 1 and 7 (include 4 countries) as well as the top 4 of the other zones 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 join the finals. The final phase of 24 countries will qualify the top 6 to the corresponding World Championship. The qualifiers will be determined before the end of June. The meeting decided to start the African tours with the proper system to be determined following the study of the commission members. Special seminars for the beach competition supervisors will also be organized in 2012 in the framework of the CAVB Strategic plan. The meeting was attended by CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani, the Board Supervisor Waithaka Kioni (KEN), the commission President Ayaovi Babanawo (TOG), CAVB Executive Director Howyda Mondy and the Beach Director May Alaa.
