Nairobi, Kenya, April 9, 2011- Prisons captured their second consecutive women’s African title after defeating their arch rivals Pipeline in straight sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-22) at Nazarene University Hall in Nairobi, Kenya in front of the full capacity of 3000 spectators on Saturday. Due to the early injury of Pipeline strong attacker Asha Makuto in the first set it seemed an easy game for Prisons, who overwhelmed their Kenyan sisters to take home their third African Championship in four years. It was a repeat of the 2010 final in Mauritius where Prisons won 3-1 to represent the continent in the Club World Championship where they finished fifth.
After 2008, 2010 Prisons clinched the African crown for the third time to secure a berth at the 2011 FIVB Club World Championship berth to be hosted in Qatar later this year.
Al Ahly of Egypt secured the bronze medal after they flew past the struggling Injs team of Cameroon 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 26-24).
The final was attended by the vice chancellor of Africa Nazarene University Professor Leah Marangu, the Assistant Office of Prim Minister Mr. Alfread Khanagati, Kenya Volleyball Federation President and Local organizing Committee president Waithaka Kioni, CAVB Technical Director Howyda Mondy, Referee Delegate Emmanuel Ngoloko and the SOC Delegate Morakinyo Ebenezer and the CAVB Medical Commission President Dr. Hossam Bahgat.
Meanwhile the other ranking positions were determined through the classification matches on Friday where the dark horses Water Sports of Ethiopia claimed their best ever finish as they out
