Amr Elwani re- elected as CAVB President

Khartoum, Sudan, December 9, 2011- FIVB Vice- President Dr Amr Elwani was re- elected President of the African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” on Friday in Khartoum, Sudan for another four- year term after receiving 41 votes out of total 48 attending National Federation that were in attendance at the CAVB general assembly  along with the FIVB President Jizhong Wei FIVB 1st executive vice-president and NORCECA president Cristóbal Marte, FIVB executive vice-president and CEV president André Meyer and FIVB executive vice-president and CSV president Dr Ary Graca.      Elwani got 41 votes out of 47 and the other candidate for the presidency Tubby Reddy got 6 votes with one vote invalid.
Elwani will be joined in the board by 6 vice presidents who are Mory Kieta (Guinea Conakry) who got 45 votes, Habu Gumel (Nigeria) 43 votes, Munir Ben Slimane (Tunisia) 43 votes, Idriss Dokony (Tchad) 42 votes, Waithaka Kioni (Kenya) 42 votes and Camilo Antao (Mozambique) 39 votes.
 For the gender Minority Touria Aarab (Morocco) 43 votes and Aminata Fofana 40 votes were added to the board.
 The other CAVB representatives to the FIVB board were also elected as Habu Gumel (Nigeria) 43 votes, Louis Timba (Cameroon) 44 votes and Issiaka Sawadougou (Burkina Faso) 37 votes were honoured with these posts along with the President Elwani who will be automatically FIVB executive vice President as a confederation president.  
  Early on Friday the FIVB and CAVB expert Abdel Hadi Ghzali declared his withdrawal from the candidature in the position of CAVB vice President and he announced that he will retire from all his posts in volleyball.

 Ghzali served volleyball for more than 35 years as a player, official, Morocco board member, CAVB and FIVB board member and was one of the icons of African volleyball leadership. He was greeted by a load applaud from the audience for his long serve to African and international volleyball.
