Abuja, Nigeria, November 4, 2011- Angola men's beach volleyball team claimed the gold medals of the CAVB Continental Cup second round stop at Abuja, Nigeria following their hard victory over the hosts in a five- match final after a thrilling golden set.
Both finalists Angola and Nigeria already secured their vacancies at the finals of the CAVB Continental Cup to be held in June 2012 which will be the final qualifier for London Olympic Games.
All Africa Games silver medalists Angola passed the first round easily when they hammered Gambia in four straight matches 4-0 to qualify to the final of the 4 nation tournament.
The hosts Nigeria used the support of their local spectators to overcome the fighting Burundi players 4-0 to secure the second spot of the final.
Nigeria started the final match in a consistent performance as their pair of Kayode AJILORE/ Goodluck ANYASODIKE defeated the Angolan brothers Eden and Marcio Sequeira 2-1(21-18, 19-21, 11-15). Angola then recovered to win the second match 2-1(19-21, 21-15, 11-15) to draw 1-1 after two matches.
Again Nigeria were ahead 2-1 after they won the third match 2-1(21-18, 19-21, 15-13), but quickly Angola draw 2-2 after they sealed their opponents in the fourth match 2-0(21-14, 21-14) to extend the match to the golden set.
The experienced Angolan pair of Morais Abreu /Marcio Silva succeeded to overcome the Nigerian duo Kayode Ajilore / Goodluck Anyasodike 22-20 to win the gold medal.
Burundi played their best to clinch the bronze medal after the saw off Burundi 3-1.
