RD Congo women clinch gold from All Africa Games champions

 Abuja, Nigeria, November 3, 2011- RD Congo women Beach Volleyball team surprised the volleyball family by a stunning victory over All Africa Games Champions Mauritius in a thrilling final of 5 matches 3-2 to clinch the gold medal of the CAVB Continual Cup Second Round Women Pool 4 held in Abuja, Nigeria.


 Congo achieved their first ever African competition gold medal to edge closer to qualification for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Now both Congo and Mauritius secured their berths between the top 8 countries to the finals of the CAVB Continental Cup to be held in June 2012.


 The surprise Congo team embarrassed the home audiences with a difficult victory over Nigeria after an exciting golden set 3-2. They recovered after losing the first match to win two successive clashes that made them ahead 2-1. The Nigerians rebounded back to win the fourth match before Congo pair of Nsimba Matondo / Tshama Tshitenge defeated Nigeria’s Prescila Agera / Isabela Eyetsonetan 15-13 in the golden set.


 Mauritius did the same against the organizers as they defeated them also 3-2 after a big fought that ended through the golden set 15-13.


 Congo and Mauritius met in final that determine the gold medals where Congo pair Nsimba Matondo/ Tshama Tshitenge defeated Mauritius Marjorie Nadal / Prisca Seerungun 2-0 in the first match. Mauritius All Africa Games champion’s duo of Natacha Rigobert / Elodie Lo Yuk Lo rebounded to win the second match 2-1. Again Congo lead 2-1 before Mauritius double Natacha Rigobert / Elodie Lo Yuk Lo draw 2-2 to play the golden set that showed Nsimba Matondo/ Tshama Tshitenge fantastic win 15-13 to win the thrilling final to be crowned with the gold medals.
