Cairo, Egypt, November 1, 2011- The National women volleyball team continued with their dominance over their rivals Egypt in the ongoing series of build up matches in Cairo. Kenya won 3-0 (29-27,27-25,25-22) in a tough encounter played at the Maadi Olympic Centre in Cairo.
The match comes as a final touch preparation to the coming FIVB World Cup in Japan where the Kenyan team represents Africa Along with Algeria.
The match started on a sound note when Diana Khisa gave the team the first point through aggressive blocking and an attack from Lydia Maiyo gave the team a deserved lead of 2-0. The match was a seesaw with the teams changing leadership throughout the set. The teams tied at 5-5,6-6,7-7,all the way to 20-20,from where the Egyptians pair of Nahla and Nada Nassef did well in attack to break away to 23-20,ferocious spikes from Lydia Maiyo tied the match at 24-24, till 27-27 when captain Brackcides Agala had a good block and attack to end the set 29-27.
Nothing changed in the second set with teams still unable to break from each other till the last few points, but it was interesting to see the young Egyptians playing a very good defensive game all through, At some point in the second set the Coach of Egypt brought in Dina for Nahla in a move that brought a lot of difference. Kenya won the second set 27-25 before completing the third set 25-22, to lead the series 3-0.
The Kenyan team will play another friendly match against Egypt on Tuesday before their departure to Japan.
Egypt are also preparing for the Arab Games to be staged in Doha, Qatar in December, in this regard both teams have benefited from the friendlies.
