Successful VIS course in Benin under supervision of FIVB

Under supervision of FIVB, the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) organized a successful VIS course in the Benin Capital of Cotonou April 29 to May 4 during the country hosted the twenty fourth African Cup of Clubs Champions. The course was directed by Mr. Jivko Jetchev, the FIVB Technical commission member. It comes as one of CAVB development programmes according to the World Vision 2012 aiming to decrease the gap in volleyball information system and statistics with the other continents and to widespread VIS not only in the continental level but also at the national level. Running the course before the competition helped CAVB to ensure big attendance of Participants as the course showed 23 participants from 10 countries; Benin, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Egypt, Guinea, Kenya, Niger, RD Congo, Rwanda and Togo.

The Closure ceremony of the course was attended by Benin Minister of Sports Mr. Jean Bapiste Edaye, CAVB Executive Director Mr. Charles Panou, Benin Volleyball Federation President Mr. Dominique Atchchawe and FIVB Referee commission Secretary Mr. Hassan Ahmed. They were all happy with the results of the participants.

The course instructor, Mr. Jivko Jetchev expressed his satisfaction after the final day of the Course and thanked CAVB leaders for their emerging role towards modern information. "VIS is a very essential tool in modern volleyball to improve the quality of coaching in the African continent and helps to promote volleyball to the different media as it supplies the journalists and TV with all needed data," said Jivko Jetchev. "I ask all the participants to improve their information and prepare VIS Staff in their respective countries to spread this information during the coming competitions. Africa as a part of the FIVB world can't stay away from this modern process because volleyball is improving very fast now and Africa has to continue the same rhythm." concluded the course instructor, after giving the certificates to the 23 participants.

CAVB Ex. Director, Mr. Charles Panou appreciated the support of FIVB to run this course in Africa and promised to follow FIVB President, Dr. Ruben Acosta advice to improve the volleyball level in the continent towards the world level. "Application of the VIS is very important now in modern volleyball to supply the media with the needed information. We want to use this support for more progress in all categories of the sport" added Panou.

CAVB officials were all happy to see the high support of the local authority to bring this course to a complete success specialy the Minister of sports.
